A man has appeared in court accused of a bomb hoax after flights were briefly grounded at Kirkwall Airport in Orkney.

The airport suspended operations on Saturday morning following a report of a “threatening communication”.

Ross Buchan, 20, of Dundee, appeared in private at the city’s sheriff court charged under the Criminal Law Act. He was also accused of threatening or abusive behaviour, as well as sexual offences.

Mr Buchan made no plea and was remanded in custody.
