A man has died after falling into an empty silo at a factory, police have said.

Merseyside Police confirmed the 45-year-old, whose next of kin has been informed, died at the scene in the Speke area of Liverpool.

The force said emergency services responded to reports of an “industrial incident” in Woodend Avenue shortly after 19:20 BST on Monday.

An investigation, involving the police and Health and Safety Executive, is under way to establish how the man fell into the silo.
