With time, your mattress will not be as pristine as when you first bought it. There are a myriad of stains that can drench a mattress, with sweat, blood, and urine on the list.
A good mattress is costly, so if you think you have to toss yours, there’s something you can try first.
With a mattress that had accumulated stains over time, a hack-savvy person took to an online forum with a trick that they say worked for them to lift heavy stains from their mattress. In fact, it worked so good that they soon realized that their mattress was pure white rather than a cream colour.
They explained that they were looking to sell the mattress, but were left dismayed by the sweat and period stains that were on it.
Determined, they found a recipe that promised to solve the problem. The concoction included 10oz of hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and a drop of dishwashing soap mixed well.
In their social media post, they shared that they already had a bottle of 3oz hydrogen peroxide from the dollar store, so they added 1 tablespoon of baking soda and a drop of dishwashing soap to a bottle.

They wrote: “As I shook the bottle it seemed to get cold from the reaction. And when I sprayed the spots, the sweat disappeared in about 10 min and the period stains went from dark brown to a light orange.
“Unfortunately it cleaned so well that I realized my mattress was supposed to be white, not cream coloured.
“So I bought another bottle and diluted it with water and lightly sprayed the whole thing.
“Mattress looks like new, but I have to figure out about those light orange spots. Maybe I’ll just leave them.”
The poster said they were able to sell the $1,800 mattress for $100, with the happy couple who bought it knowing about its history, though they weren’t able to completely get the period stain out.
They wrote: “Only the sweat stains completely disappeared.”
