The M5 has been closed in both directions due to a police-led incident.
The closure is in place between junction 24 for Huntworth and junction 23, near Bridgwater in Somerset.
Diversions are in place, with motorists being told to allow extra journey time and to expect long delays.
Avon and Somerset Police are at the scene, as well as National Highways officers who are assisting with traffic management.
