M40: Motorway reopens after sausages scattered in lorry crash

National Highways is still warning of delays of up to 90 minutes for motorists.

It said the lorry, which had been travelling on the southbound carriageway, went through the central reservation and ended up on the northbound carriageway where it hit a bridge support.

Thames Valley Police confirmed no-one was seriously injured in the incident.

In a post on social media, the force’s roads policing team said the HGV had been transporting sausages, which had been left “scattered across the road”.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews arrived to find a lorry on its side and “released the driver who was trapped”.

It added “thankfully nobody was seriously injured” and crews left the driver in the care of South Central Ambulance Service.
