M4 reopened eastbound but westbound still closed

An eastbound stretch of motorway in south Wales has reopened following a police incident that caused long delays.

The M4 westbound remained closed between junctions 37 and 38, Porthcawl to Margam, after the incident, which caused tailbacks of around 4.3km (2.7 mile) westbound and about 6km (3.7 mile) eastbound.

South Wales Police said on Thursday afternoon the incident “has now been resolved” and that the eastbound stretch of the road has been reopened.

It urged motorists to “proceed with caution while the congestion eases”.
