M2 motorway closed in Kent after crashes near Medway Services

Part of the M2 is closed in Kent after a vehicle crashed into the central reservation barrier.

The London-bound carriageway is shut between junctions five (for Maidstone) and four (for Gillingham) while police carry out an investigation.

National Highways said the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the afternoon.

Kent Police said officers were called at 12:50 GMT on Christmas Eve to the “serious collision” near the Medway services.

A police spokesperson said the motorway was “likely to remain so for an extended period of time”.

South East Coast Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.

A diversion is in place, signposted with a yellow square.
