‘Lots’ as Scottish Thistles seek recovery win over New Zealand Silver Ferns

Lynsey Gallagher believes the Scottish Thistles have “lots to be positive about” as they seek to avenge Sunday’s loss to New Zealand Silver Ferns.

The sides meet again in East Kilbride on Tuesday after the Silver Ferns triumphed 63-41 at the weekend. Tuesday’s meeting will be broadcast on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app.

“It was a great game, the girls really did do themselves proud reaching targets that they’d set,” said Gallagher, who won 88 caps for the Thistles.

“The score line doesn’t really reflect that but when you’ve got 10th in the world playing against second in the world and to record their best ever score against a New Zealand team, there was lots to be positive about.

“There was a great defensive effort from the full seven that were out there in any on quarter. There was great flashes of play and there was some real brilliance. It was just trying to get that more consistently over each quarter.

“The squad is still relatively young so it’s a great platform. It’s not every day you get to play against teams like New Zealand, it’s not often that they’re over. Some of those girls,. it’ll be the first time that they’ve played against New Zealand.”
