LinkedIn Added a New Way to Report AI Slop

If you’re tired of reading obviously AI-generated LinkedIn posts about the magic of B2B sales, there’s hope: LinkedIn on Thursday released a new tool that allows you to report posts as “Seems like AI slop.”

AI slop is the term given to the deluge of posts, images and videos created with generative AI flooding social media like an oil spill. These posts tend to offer little value and clog up feeds. Every social media platform is struggling to hold back the tide of AI slop, and LinkedIn is certainly no exception.

A recent report from research firm Pangram found that one in four long-form social media posts was AI-generated. Of those AI posts, nearly two-thirds (62%) appeared on LinkedIn. On X (formerly Twitter), nearly half of all articles contained AI writing.

Now, you can report posts you’re suspicious of by tapping the three dots next to a post and selecting “Seems like AI slop.”

404 Media first spotted the feature. Hari Srinivasan, LinkedIn’s chief product officer, shared on Thursday that the company is ramping up efforts to identify AI slop. Allowing people to report posts that seem like AI slop will help LinkedIn get better at spotting the AI-created, low-quality content.

“Slop is hard to define and the definition changes; this lets us tune our models and make better feeds,” Srinivasan said.

It has also removed the “enhance with AI” option that appears when you are drafting a post, and will be replacing it with an option that proofreads your words without substantially rewriting them with AI. Srinivasan said LinkedIn is flagging “hundreds of thousands of automated comment attempts” and has blocked billions more attempts to use automated postings (usually with the aid of AI) across the platform.
