Welsh boxer Liam Williams is set for his return to the ring against Elvis Ahorgah in Nigeria this summer – 21 months after he retired because of concussions.

The 34-year-old former British, European and Commonwealth champion will fight in Lagos on Friday, 31 July.

Williams hung up his gloves in October 2024 because of concussions but the former world title challenger announced his comeback 12 months later.

He will make his long-awaited return against Ghana’s Ahorgah, who has won 15 of 19 professional fights and lost twice in England in 2025 when beaten by Callum Simpson at Wembley and Tyler Denny in Birmingham.

“After a lot of fuss and waiting around, here we have it,” Williams said on social media. “Bit of a mad one, I didn’t plan on Nigeria any time soon but no complaints.”

Williams’ last fight was a first-round KO defeat by Hamzah Sheeraz in February 2024, a defeat that took his professional record to 25 wins, five losses and a draw.
