Lancaster: Aldi checkout racer set to take on nemesis cashier

Mr Lupton started shopping at Aldi every week after the company opened its Aldcliffe Road store, near his home in Lancaster, in 2020.

He said he had noticed how “insanely speedy” the cashiers were at scanning his items and last month decided to film himself packing his shopping bags.

He uploaded the video to his Instagram story and soon received a flurry of messages about his performance.

The music teacher and producer has posted six videos so far, all in the style of the retro video game Street Fighter.

They racked up almost three million views, inspiring him to set up his TikTok channel.

He said one of his main rules was that his last items had to be in the bag before the cashier asked if he would like a receipt.
