An 18-year-old pupil has died at a private school in Kent.

Kent Police was called to a “medical incident” at Kent College on Whitstable Road, Canterbury, just before 23:00 GMT on Monday.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers attended the scene along with paramedics and an 18-year-old man was confirmed to be deceased.

“His death is being treated as non-suspicious, and a report will be compiled for the coroner.”

Mark Turnbull, head of Kent College, said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our boarding pupils.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends and our wider school community.

“We are now supporting our pupils and their families.”

The senior school was closed for day pupils on Tuesday and expects to reopen on Wednesday, a statement said.

Mr Turnbull added: “We will take time to bring our whole community together and offer further support.”

Kent College dates back to 1885 and has more than 500 pupils.

It takes pupils from nursery age up to 18, and has an international campus in Dubai.
