Appearing on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme, Sir Keir Starmer was pressed on his government’s tax plans, ahead of Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ Budget in November.

BBC presenter Laura Kuenssberg asked the prime minister directly five times if his government would rule out raising VAT.

The prime minister stopped short of a direct response, repeating instead that “the manifesto stands” and that more would be revealed in the November Budget.
