An investigation into the murder of a 28-year-old man in Glasgow has ended after the death of a suspect in the case.

The 37-year-old, who has not yet been named, fell from a window last Wednesday and died in hospital at the weekend.

The body of Josh Taplin was found in a property in Caldwell Avenue in the Knightswood area of the city on 5 May and a 41-year-old woman was also assaulted.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Taplin’s death or the assault.

A statement from Police Scotland confirmed that they were now investigating the death of the man who fell from a window in Killearn Street in the Possilpark area on Wednesday and died on Saturday.

“The death is not believed to be suspicious,” police said.

“Officers had been looking for this man with a view to interviewing him in respect of the murder of Josh Taplin.”

An online appeal to help Mr Taplin’s family give him a “send off he deserves” raised more than £30,000 before it was closed to donations.

The former Hamilton Accies youth footballer was a member of Auchengeich Boxing Club in Stepps.

In an tribute on social media, the club said they were “devastated” to hear of the death of their triple champion who won Western District, Scottish and British championships.
