Javier Mascherano leaves Inter Miami role

Former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has stepped down as manager of MLS side Inter Miami.

Mascherano, 41, took charge of the club in 2024 and guided them to their first MLS Cup win in 2025.

He said, external: “I want to let everyone know that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF.

“I will always carry with me the memory of our first star, and wherever I am, I will continue to wish the club all the best.”

Mascherano played with current Miami stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez while with Barcelona and previously coached Argentina at the 2024 Olympics.

Former Barcelona B coach Guillermo Hoyos, who was the sporting director at Miami, will take over as manager with immediate effect.
