West Indies all-rounder Matthew Forde equalled the record for the fastest one-day international half-century before rain prevented a result in Friday’s contest against Ireland in Dublin.
Forde reached 50 off just 16 balls, tying South African batter AB de Villiers’ mark set in 2015, to help West Indies post an imposing target before rain intervened to prevent Ireland from beginning their chase.
Forde’s 58 off 19 balls included eight sixes and two fours, with Keacy Carty’s second ODI century helping West Indies surge past the 300 mark.
However, the match was abandoned just before 17:30 BST following a two-hour rain delay with Ireland retaining a 1-0 series lead after winning Wednesday’s opener by 124 runs.
The series at Clontarf concludes on Sunday (10:45 BST) before West Indies face England in three one-day games and three Twenty20 internationals.
Following their tour of England, West Indies return to Ireland for a three-match T20 series, which starts on 12 June in Bready.
