The 2025 Mountain Bike World Championships are taking place in Switzerland this week, and BBC Sport will be showing the elite cross-country women’s and men’s events live from Valais.

Coverage of the action will be shown on 13-14 September, live on the iPlayer & BBC Sport app and website.

In the women’s event, there are seven British athletes competing to be crowned world champion, with Amy Henchoz being the top-ranked Briton in action, currently 37th in the world.

Last year’s winner Puck Pieterse, of the Netherlands, is one of the favourites to regain her crown. The USA’s Olympic silver medallist Haley Batten will be a strong contender too, alongside Sweden’s former Olympic champion Jenny Rissveds.

In the men’s event, five British athletes will be involved, but Paris 2024 Olympic champion Tom Pidcock is not taking part.

Jason Bouttell is the top Briton at 88 in the world, and is the only UK rider in the top 100.

The Netherlands’ Mathieu van der Poel, who already has road, gravel, and cyclocross world titles – is one of the favourites this year, but he will face competition from Victor Koretzky, France’s silver medallist in last year’s Olympics.
