A Gwent Police officer has been found not guilty of corruption charges.

Luke Silver, 34, from Pembroke, had been accused of having “sexually inappropriate conversations” with two women on separate occasions during the course of his duties.

He faced three charges of “corruptly or improperly exercising police powers and privileges”.

After a week-long trial at Cardiff Crown Court, a jury found Mr Silver not guilty after considering their verdicts for less than two hours.

During the trial, one woman had alleged that whilst driving her home from a police station, Mr Silver turned down a control on his police radio before asking her questions about her sex life.

Mr Silver told the court these conversations had not happened and they had in fact been talking about cats.

The woman told the court he gave her his personal phone number which she texted a week later to thank him for the lift but he did not respond.

He admitted giving her his personal phone number but told the court that he had communicated with her on that phone rather than his work handset because of signal problems.

After less than two hours deliberation, the jury found Mr Silver not guilty on the three charges he faced.

The judge thanked the jury for its dedication and Mr Silver was discharged.
