Grant Shapps reacts to losing his Welwyn-Hatfield seat

The Secretary of State for Defence, Grant Shapps, said the Conservative Party had tried the patience of voters after losing his seat.

The Welwyn-Hatfield constituency in Hertfordshire was won by Labour, bringing his 19-year spell as its MP to an end.

He said the public were fed-up with the party’s “endless political soap opera” and that “the people do not vote for divided parties”.

He lost to Labour’s Andrew Lewin who stood for the Lib Dems in Hertford & Stortford in 2010 (finishing second) and who was born in the old QE2 hospital.
