Man arrested after boy, 16, dies in Birmingham crash

A man has been arrested after a 16-year-old boy was killed in a crash in Birmingham.

Police said the teenager was in a white Seat Ibiza which was understood to have hit railings on Shaftmoor Lane at about 20:30 BST on Saturday.

A second passenger, a boy in his teens, was taken to hospital with a serious arm injury.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a breath specimen, West Midlands Police said.

The force stated the 16-year-old boy who lost his life was pronounced dead at the scene, which is in the Acocks Green and Hall Green areas, despite the best efforts of paramedics.

It appealed for information, adding specialist officers from the serious collision investigation unit were asking anyone who had dashcam footage from around the time of the crash to get in touch.
