Armagh will play Kerry in the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Ladies Football Championship after getting the better of Mayo in the last eight.
After quarter-final defeats in each of the last three seasons, the Orchard County stormed into an early lead at the Athletic Grounds and ultimately prevailed 2-11 to 0-11.
Thanks to an early goal and free from Blaithin Mackin, as well as points from Aoife McCoy and Eve Lavery, the Ulster champions led 1-3 to 0-1 after only 12 minutes of the contest.
Aoife Geraghty provided a pair of scores for Mayo in the first half, but the hosts led by six at the break.
While Mayo showed flashes after the restart, McCoy’s goal eight minutes into the second half settled the contest.
The visitors would cut the deficit over the final quarter but never looked likely to mount a serious comeback.
Armagh’s semi-final against Kerry on 20 July will provide a repeat of the National League final which was won by the Ulster side by a score of 2-12 to 2-9 in April.
Kerry came through their own quarter-final with Meath 0-16 to 0-8 on Saturday.
In the weekend’s other ties, Aoife O’Rourke’s late goal for Galway knocked out reigning champions Dublin in a thrilling contest that went to extra-time.
Cork await the Connacht side in the semi-finals after their 1-17 to 2-4 win over Waterford.
