A teacher has been banned after pupils at a Shropshire girls’ school reported teenage YouTube searches shown in a geography lesson, the Teaching Regulation Agency [TRA] said.
In May 2025, pupils raised concerns about James Hindson, who worked at Moreton Hall, after previous searches were displayed on a large screen, revealing one or more of “teen bikini haul”, “teens in thongs” and “girls in thongs”.
Hindson, now 69, who was dismissed from the Oswestry school, said he was searching for a clip to illustrate aspects of global trade and accidentally showed searches.
A panel found “proven facts amount to unacceptable professional conduct and/or conduct that may bring the profession into disrepute”.
Pupils reported that as the teacher clicked on his YouTube account search bar, it revealed his previous searches, the agency said.
Hindson admitted that on 7 May last year he displayed one or more of the three search terms to pupils and his search conduct was of a sexual nature and/or sexually motivated, it also stated.
The panel saw a school investigation report, which stated people reviewed his search history and when they searched in his history for “teen” it generated results for teenagers in little clothing, teenagers engaging in athletic activity or relating to sexual activity.
The teacher said that during the lesson he was searching for a YouTube clip to illustrate aspects of global trade based on a song.
