Flooding in the South expected after heavy rain

“Prolonged heavy rainfall” means there will be some flooding in the south of England on Sunday and Monday, the Environment Agency (EA) has said.

The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for the region, in place until 09:00 GMT on Monday.

Several flood alerts have been issued, external, with flood warnings in place for Maiden Newton, Dorset, and Blackwater and Newport on the Isle of Wight.

An EA spokesperson said teams were “out on the ground” on Sunday, operating flood defences, taking action to reduce the impact of flooding and supporting affected communities.
