Several flats have been evacuated in Edinburgh after armed police closed off part of a street.

Officers were called to the tenement block on St Leonard’s Street in Newington at about 09:00 on Saturday morning following reports of a disturbance.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said properties had been evacuated as a “precaution”.

St Leonard’s Street remains closed at the junction of St Leonard’s Place and Lutton Place and drivers have been warned to avoid the area.
