Firefighters continued to battle wildfires in the Mourne Mountains on Monday – one at Bloody Bridge near Newcastle and another at Silent Valley near Kilkeel.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) area commander David Harbinson said there was no water access and officers were physically beating out the fire.

“It’s very physically demanding on the firefighters and, of course, you can appreciate the terrain that they’re operating in,” he added.

NIFRS said it has dealt with 146 wildfires since midnight on Thursday.
