‘Eyesore’ rubbish piles removed from driveway in Gorseinon

Piles of rubbish on a driveway described as an “eyesore” by neighbours have been cleared away after several months.

Waste including mattresses, suspected gas cylinders and an abandoned caravan had been gathered at a house in Frampton Road in Gorseinon, Swansea.

Residents previously said the council had promised the rubbish would be cleared by the end of the summer and then, when that did not happen, at the end of October.

After complaints, Swansea Council said last month it would arrange for the clear-up and a full flatbed van was seen taking rubbish away on Monday.

It also said it would follow this up with action to recuperate the costs.

One resident said she felt recent media coverage was likely to have been an incentive for the speed of the clean-up.

The neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “We are overjoyed, it was weighing on our minds. We had more flies over the last year and a half and saw the odd rat.”

Another resident said it was “definitely an eyesore” and “looking a lot better”.

Councillor Nicola Matthews praised those involved in the clear-up, saying she was “delighted to see the rubbish is finally being cleared and I am grateful to residents for raising this with me and for their patience as we worked to get this resolved”.

The detached house is currently vacant and a person who had lived there said in November it was going through probate, a legal process under which a deceased individual’s estate is managed.
