Ex-Tory MP Daniel Poulter defects to Labour over NHS

Former health minister and Conservative MP Daniel Poulter has defected to Labour, saying he disagreed with the Conservative Party’s handling of the NHS.

In an exclusive TV interview with BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, the Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP said the NHS “deserves better”.

He said: “I found it increasingly difficult to look my NHS colleagues in the eye, my patients in the eye, and my constituents in the eye with good conscience.”

Dr Poulter, who was first elected in 2010, served as a health minister for several years under the coalition.

You can watch his full interview on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, BBC One at 09:00 BST.
