Eurovision: When London has hosted the contest

London has hosted the Eurovision song contest four times with various levels of success.

When it took place in the capital, technician strikes, accusations of miming artists and the arrival of colour television were just some of the issues that dominated conversations at the time.

Angela Rippon, who hosted the 1977 competition at the Wembley Conference Centre, described the event that year as “probably one of the worst rehearsed and organised Eurovisions that there has ever been”.
