Eight men are being questioned over violent disorder and a person is in hospital after police were called to anti-social behaviour in two south Wales towns.

In total, four people received hospital treatment after an incident on Blackwood High Street, Caerphilly county, at about 14:45 GMT on Thursday.

Three of them have since been discharged.

Gwent Police said the disorder was linked to violence 10 minutes later about three miles (5 km) away in Newbridge, also in Caerphilly county.

“We have arrested eight men on suspicion of violent disorder, they all remain in custody at this time,” said Det Insp Elaine Newbury.

“Although these two reports of disorder appear to be linked, we are treating this as an isolated incident and not linked to previous anti-social behaviour reported in Blackwood or Newbridge.”

Det Insp Newbury said officers will remain in these two areas to answer any concerns of locals.

None of the injuries of those involved in the disorder are believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
