Ed Sheeran to miss Ipswich Town games after move to America

Ed Sheeran has said he will no longer be able to attend Ipswich Town games, after revealing he is swapping Suffolk for the States.

The Shape of You singer announced he would live in the USA with his family while on tour in America during an interview on The 2 Johnnies Podcast.

The 34-year-old has become synonymous with the county and the Tractor Boys in recent years, having acquired a 1.4% stake in the club.

He is often spotted in the stands at Portman Road on matchdays.

“I went to almost every game last season, but I could only make one this season because I’m moving to the States,” he revealed on the podcast.

Sheeran, who has 14 UK Number 1 singles and eight UK Number 1 albums, lives on an estate near Framlingham, where he grew up.

While the songwriter is moving across the pond, it is believed he will continue to own his Suffolk home, which boasts two on-site pubs and a chapel.

“I feel like I might be the only person moving to America, [but] I’m going on tour there for a while,” Sheeran said, who previously revealed a desire to move to Nashville and transition to country music.

“I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out – we’re going and settling there.”

The Ipswich Town Fans Supporting Foodbanks group said Sheeran was a “great supporter of Ipswich” but home games would continue to sell-out without him.

“What makes him great is he understands that no fan is any bigger than any other, but combined they have immense power,” the group said.

“Even with Ed leaving sunny Suffolk, fans are still protecting the Ipswich community, whether they’re living in Suffolk or Sydney.

“So, we’re sure that Ed will still be looking out for us from afar.”

Sheeran’s new album Play will be released this Friday, on the same day Ipswich Town face Sheffield United.

He will next perform on 20 September at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in America.
