Dundee: Willie Collum in touch over ‘stonewall penalty’ – Docherty

Manager Tony Docherty has revealed Scottish FA head of referees Willie Collum contacted him to discuss an incorrect decision not to award Dundee a penalty in Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Ross County.

The incident, which was subject to a VAR review, involved former County striker Simon Murray in the 55th minute, with the visitors two goals down.

“He phoned me yesterday to tell me he’d watched it back himself,” Docherty told club media, external of his talks with Collum. “I won’t go into details of the conversation, but we had an absolute stonewall penalty.

“It can change the outcome of the game and I’m disappointed with that obviously. Regardless of how the team performs, you need things to go for you.”

While frustrated to miss out on a spot-kick in what was his side’s first defeat of the season, Docherty was full of praise for Collum’s approach.

“I appreciate massively Willie’s honesty and openness,” he added. “That’s the way I think it should be.

“Previously, there was a decision that maybe should have gone against us in the derby, which I agreed with.

“This one should have gone for us but we never got the decision. But, again, I’m really thankful for Willie phoning me.

“I think we have got to see that transparency going forward.”
