Duncan Scott & Katie Shanahan set to take on the world in Singapore

Shanahan missed out on a place in the semi-final in the women’s 200m individual medley earlier in the week, but goes in arguably her stronger event – the 200m backstroke – on Friday.

The 21-year-old, who claimed bronze in the event at her debut Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022, before finishing fifth at her first Olympic Games last summer, will be joined by University of Stirling team-mate Holly McGill.

McGill will be making her World Championship debut, having finished fourth at the Europeans last summer in her senior Great Britain debut.

A medal might be a tough ask for the pair, but reaching the semi-finals and final on Saturday would be an encouraging sign as they focus on the LA Olympics in 2028.

Keanna MacInnes lowered her own Scottish record in the 100m butterfly to finish 12th in a time of 57.67 seconds.

And she will dive in again in the 200m butterfly on Wednesday, hoping to improve on her ninth place finish at the Olympics in Paris, narrowly missing the final.

University of Stirling athlete Angharad Evans has also made her World Championships debut in Singapore, finishing 18th in 100m breaststroke on Monday.

And the Paris Olympian will contest the 200m breaststroke on Thursday.

Relay specialists Lucy Hope and Evan Jones are set to be part of Great Britain’s freestyle and medley relay teams, while Aberdeen’s Noah Penman and Edinburgh’s Grace Reid are also in action in the diving competitions.
