Police were called to the crash near Brechin on Friday evening

A driver has been arrested after two people died in a crash between a coach and a car in Angus.

Emergency services were called after a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a Mercedes coach collided on the B9134 near Brechin at 18:15 on Friday.

Two passengers in the car, a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The car driver, a 19-year-old man, was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He was arrested over a road traffic offence.

No-one on the coach was injured.

The road was closed for investigation and reopened at about 04:00 on Saturday.

Sgt Steve Livesey said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man and woman who died at this very difficult time for all.”
