Fire breaks out at Isle of Man Castletown fire station

A fire has broken out at a fire station on the Isle of Man.

Images on social media saw the Castletown fire station ablaze earlier, with thick smoke rising from the building.

The A5, close to the Isle of Man airport at Ronaldsway, was closed by police while fire crews brought the blaze under control, and has now reopened.

An Isle of Man Police spokesman said: “There is no direct fire risk to members of the public at this time and nobody is reported to have been injured as a result, however members of the public in the area are asked to stay indoors and where possible, close windows to avoid smoke inhalation.”

The police urged people to avoid the area and use the Castletown bypass instead.

The force added that people who were planning to fly from the Isle of Man should contact the airport and their airline for information about any potential disruption.
