The police said no-one was in the property at the time of the fire, but three dogs were found dead inside the property and later removed.
They said the house was “completely gutted” in the fire.
In a statement, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said it was treating the fire as “deliberate ignition”.
Firefighters attended the incident at about 18:30 BST and used specialist equipment to enter the property and put the fire out.
The operation involved crews from Derry’s Crescent Link and Northland Road fire stations, as well as colleagues from Strabane and Limavady.
The NIFRS have said crews worked in difficult conditions and it took them three hours to bring the fire under control.
