Speaking on Instagram, she said: “Condensation is a natural build-up of moisture in the air, most rooms in the home get it but bedrooms in the morning, kitchens, and bathrooms are usually affected more.”
She added that if you left it alone it “can cause black mould and a build-up.”
So what is the trend that people have been following online?
It turns out they’ve been using dish soap to tackle condensation in the windows of their homes.
But it seems to be doing more harm than good, Sarah explained: “It will repel the water and on the face of it it will look like your windows are condensation-free but that’s not the truth.
“The condensation will have to go somewhere and if it’s not on the glass it will gather on walls, ceilings, and sills causing faster mould build-up and damp patches.”
Instead, she shared some tips of her own for getting rid of the condensation. She recommended getting the water away from your windows.
She shared: “A small pot of rock salt, baking soda, or cat litter, only if safe from pets and children, on a sill will draw water effectively.”
Next, she suggested opening the curtains and blinds as soon as you get up in the morning.
Sarah explained: “Condensation is more likely with trapped air. Wipe with tissue or a dry cloth in the morning to remove moisture.”
Another tip was to open your windows regularly and to be careful where you put your houseplants.
She added: “Remove plants from around windows as they can cause moisture traps.”
And finally, one tip she gave to her followers was to invest in a dehumidifier and a water vacuum. This way it will help tackle a build-up of condensation.
People took to the comment section of the video in response to the advice, with one person writing: “Yes, I’ve seen this viral hack and heard it’s very damaging. I have mini dehumidifiers.”
Another simply wrote: “Thanks, for the amazing tips, lovely.”
