Highland Council is taking over Stagecoach’s Wick and Thurso bus operation.
The local authority said the acquisition would see all of the company’s 26 staff in Caithness transfer to its D&E Coaches business.
The deal is expected to be finalised on 19 October.
D&E Coaches will then run local services – including school transport, private hire contracts and services to the Dounreay nuclear site.
