Controlled explosion ‘at back of Bedfordshire pre-school’

A controlled explosion was carried out at the back of a pre-school, the BBC understands, before a man was held under the Terrorism Act.

The 31-year-old from Bedford was arrested by Met Police, on Tuesday, on suspicion of possession of articles for terrorist purposes. It came after specialist officers removed substances from a house in Caddington, near Luton.

He had previously been arrested on Monday 6 May on suspicion of causing explosions likely to endanger life and possession of class A drugs, but had been bailed.

Bedfordshire Police confirmed a controlled explosion had taken place and multiple residents told the BBC it was carried out behind a nursery.
