Connor Goldson: ‘Concrete offer’ for Rangers defender – Philippe Clement

Rangers have received “a concrete offer” for defender and vice-captain Connor Goldson, manager Philippe Clement has said.

Clement did not identify the bidding club but confirmed the 31-year-old had left the squad prior to Wednesday’s friendly at Birmingham City to hold talks with his prospective suitors.

Goldson, who has won three trophies with Rangers, is under contract at Ibrox until 2026 and has been linked with Birmingham and, most recently, Cypriot side Aris Limassol. He was signed by former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard in 2018.

“Connor was planned to start today,” the Belgian manager told RangersTV.

“There is a concrete offer for him so I allowed him to go and to speak with this team.”

Captain James Tavernier made the starting line-up at St Andrew’s, having missed Saturday’s friendly loss to Manchester United at Murrayfield.

Tavernier, 32, has also been linked with a move after nine seasons at Rangers.

Clement said he planned to give the right-back around 45 minutes in Birmingham.

Rangers complete their pre-season programme away to Union Berlin on Saturday then visit Hearts in their Scottish Premiership opener on 3 August.
