England’s Matt Wallace is in a tie for second at the Charles Schwab Challenge after hitting a first-round four-under-par 66.

He is part of a nine-strong chasing pack that trails PGA Tour rookie John Pak by three shots at Colonial Country Club.

Wallace was level par after the front nine, but made three birdies in the first five holes on the back nine before finishing his round with another.

American Pak, who has one top-25 finish this year, hit five birdies and one eagle in a career-best 63.

World number one Scottie Scheffler, fresh from winning his third major with last weekend’s PGA Championship, is tied for 20th after carding a 68.
