Charge after man drives car into barriers

A man has been charged after a car was driven through barriers at an Army barracks.

Police were called to reports that a man had attempted to enter St Omer Barracks in Aldershot on Saturday at about 16:30 GMT.

It was reported he then got out the car, shouted at guards and damaged the car with a knife.

Jason Pellatt, 54, of no fixed address, has been charged with offences including possession of a knife, dangerous driving and assaulting an emergency worker.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said he had been remanded in custody to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The force said it was not currently treating the incident as terrorism related.

An explosive ordnance disposal team also attended the scene on Saturday due to comments the man made but confirmed there was no explosive threat, police said.
