Cardiff University: ‘Job losses make me nervous about my future’

Cardiff University students have expressed concern following an announcement that 400 jobs could be cut there and some courses cut or merged.

One student told BBC Wales that the news “definitely makes me nervous about my future”, while another said they feared the cuts would “significantly reduce our experiences”.

“The fact that they are taking away people’s livelihoods is just really upsetting,” a fellow student added.

The university said it would only make compulsory redundancies “if absolutely necessary”.

The Cardiff University and College Union (UCU) called the measures “cruel and unnecessary” and said it would fight plans for compulsory redundancies.
