Cardiff coffee shop owner filmed teen boy in shower – court

The boy said he went into an annex behind Mr Mackenzie’s shop Coffee & Cake twice in May 2021.

He said he saw “lots of cameras and a tripod” in the bedroom, but had not seen a camera in the shower.

He told detectives Mr Mackenzie kissed him and performed sex acts on him before discussing having sex with him.

He said Mr Mackenzie gave him £40 in coins and £60 in bank notes.

Earlier, the court was told forensic tests on Mr Mackenzie’s duvet cover contained evidence of semen belonging to him and the boy.

In a pre-recorded cross examination, the boy said he told Mr Mackenzie he “needed to earn money” and wanted a new iPhone.

He said he “made it clear” he did not want to have sex, but would perform sex acts for money and a phone.

The boy also said he told Mr Mackenzie he was not over 18 when they met.

When asked by defence counsel Emma Harris if he told the police these things happened because he would not pay him or buy him a phone, the boy said no.
