A motorcyclist has died and his pillion passenger has been seriously injured following a crash with a van.

Police and paramedics were called to the A5 at Capel Curig, Conwy county, on Saturday at about17:30 BST.

The male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and the female pillion passenger was airlifted to hospital with serious, potentially life-changing injuries.

North Wales Police said the van driver suffered minor injuries. The motorcyclist’s next of kin have been informed.

“Our thoughts are with the motorcyclist’s family at this sad time,” said Sgt Leigh McCann.

“We are urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have been travelling along the A5 near Capel Curig around the time of the collision and who may have dash cam footage to come forward.”
