Caldwell Construction administration puts 400 jobs at risk

More than 400 jobs have been put at risk after a construction firm was placed into administration.

Caldwell Construction Limited, a groundworks and civil engineering firm which has a head office in Stoke-on-Trent, is being overseen by administrators PKF Littlejohn Advisory. Caldwell also has an office in Warrington, Cheshire,

The construction sector has faced difficult trading conditions over recent years, according to Paul Smith, a partner at PKF Littlejohn.

Caldwell Construction was founded in 2007 and has sponsored the south stand at Stoke City FC’s Bet365 Stadium since 2019.

Issues affecting the industry included cost increases, delays to schemes and uncertainty in the market.

“These pressures were exacerbated at Caldwell in recent weeks, placing significant strain on cashflow and operations,” Smith said.

He said they had worked with the firm’s management for a number of months on different options, but had failed to find a solution.

“Our immediate focus is now on supporting employees and stakeholders while we assess the position of the business and its assets,” said joint administrator Oliver Collinge.
