Ferry Road in Edinburgh was closed after a young boy was hit by a car

A seven-year-old boy has been seriously hurt after being hit by a car on a busy road in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Ferry Road after the collision at about 18:30.

The boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People for treatment – his injuries are serious but not described as life threatening.

Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing and the road has been closed.
