A 12-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash on the A1 in the Scottish Borders.

A Peugeot 5008 and a white Ford Transit van crashed near Penmanshiel, between Cockburnspath and Grantshouse, at 20:40 on Thursday.

The 50-year-old driver and a 10-year-old boy, who were also in the car, were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The male van driver, aged 44, was taken to Borders General Hospital.

Sgt Dominic Doyle of Police Scotland said: “Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.”
