Bobsleigh World Cup: British pair win bronze in Lillehammer

Great Britain’s Brad Hall claimed a second podium finish of the World Cup two-man bobsleigh season, finishing third in Lillehammer in a race which doubled up as the European Championships.

Hall and team-mate Taylor Lawrence made sure the strong German contingent were unable to complete a clean sweep of the medals on the Norwegian track.

They finished 0.48 seconds behind Germany’s World Cup leader Francesco Friedrich, whose compatriot Johannes Lochner was second, but they edged out Adam Ammour in the third German crew by two hundredths of a second.

“Whenever you split the Germans in the two-man, it’s a good day,” said Lawrence, as the British team strengthened their position of third place in the overall standings.

The GB crew have a 218-point lead over Italy’s Patrick Baumgartner, who is in fourth, with only one race of the season remaining and a maximum 225 points available for a win.

Hall and Lawrence became the first British team ever to win an overall medal in the two-man event when they claimed bronze in 2023.

Attention now turns back to the four-man series, which continues in Lillehammer on Sunday.

Lawrence added: “A medal in the European Championships and the World Cup is always a good thing and now we get ready to go again tomorrow in the four-man, where things are a little bit more in our favour.”

Britain’s four-man crew, also led by Hall, are second in the overall standings after finishing on the podium in four out of five races so far.
