Birmingham council probe after car chaos in Cannon Hill Park

“We would remind motorists that emergency access gates are just that and should not be used to access the park even if they are open,” the council said in a statement.

It recommended drivers to instead use nearby car parks, although Mr Southwood said they were all full on the day.

He said it was not the first time cars had been driven into the park, despite the fact access for vehicles is only permitted with prior permission.

“It’s concerning that people are not prepared to respect the safety of others,” he said.

More parking spaces were needed for cars, especially on days where it could get very busy, he added.
