Huddersfield Giants head coach Jim Lenihan has said second row Asher O’Donnell could miss the rest of the season with an ankle ligament injury.
The 22-year-old Australian suffered the injury in a tackle by Cody Hunter in the defeat by York Knights at Magic Weekend.
Hunter was given a Grade C dangerous contact charge over the offence but was not banned.
“At the moment it looks like it could be fairly long-term, which is very disappointing,” Lenihan told BBC Radio Leeds.
“I know nobody means to do those types of tackles but we’re the ones who end up paying the price for it.
“It’s unfortunate circumstances for us because we lose another good player who is not going to be available for the majority, if not the rest, of the year. We’ve got to fight through it.”
The Giants, who host Bradford on Friday, are bottom of Super League and have lost all of their past 10 matches.
